A Morning on The Seafront

Irelands Green

We are blessed to live in the Emerald Isle. Emerald, because Ireland is so green, all year round. If you talk to ‘the strangers’ about Ireland, their first comment is, “It’s always cold and raining there.” Well it’s not always cold and raining, only about 80% of the time!

But the Irish have had a couple of thousand years of dealing with this condition and as a result they have no problem haggling with the weather. They are out there playing sport, working on construction sites, gardening, yes, and swimming in the sea!

In the middle of the winter of 2018, 2,505 ladies performed their annual swimming event to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. (“Many of the participants were cancer survivors who were using the naked swim to boost their self confidence in defiance of their mastectomy scars. Others took part to honor those loved ones they had lost to cancer” Quote Irish Central) My guess was the water must have been about 5 degrees centigrade. They broke the Guinness Book of Records and raised €375k!

But for us older chaps when it rains we pop down to our local for a pint of Guinness – never mind the book of records.

A Morning at The SeafrontWicklow Ireland

It was overcast and cool; we took a stroll on the front and along the pier – it was so pleasant.

                                          Children Learning To Sail

We went to the sea you see, to see what we could see, you see,

and what a pleasant morning it was; a little overcast, but who cares?

We saw some little sailing tubs – with children aboard.

Colourful sails they had.

Children’s laughter echoed across the waves as much fun they were having.

Someone said, “They are learning to sail you know.”

Friendly folk greeted us as we walked the pier,

Beautiful doggies strained on leashes. Wanted to join the children swimming

they did.

The seafront is like a doggie show – many different breeds and all immaculately

groomed.

If doggies could talk, they would have greeted us, I’m sure, but they all wagged their tails though.
