The Power of Now Journal – Eckhart Tolle.
Instead of ‘Watching The Thinker,’ You can also create a gap in the mind stream simply by directing the focus of your attention into the Now, just become Intensely conscious of the present moment.
September 23, 2023.
In following Eckhart Tolle and reading his work. I did not understand his expression, ‘Watching the Thinker.’
Later, I realized The Thinker is my ego, the voice within me that mostly speaks negatively and criticizes my words and actions.
I acted on ET’s advice and created a gap in my mind stream; I achieved this by immediately intensifying my focus on what I was doing at the time. If I weren’t doing anything mainly, I would take deep breaths and find this worked equally well.
In escaping the words of the thinker and his negative thoughts, there is, for me, a double bonus in this response. As I increase focus on what I’m doing, the better I do what I’m doing. Even in heavy breathing, I benefit from a health perspective. So, I gain either way.
For me, watching the thinker is a form of focus—a form of focus I can interrupt at any time by creating a gap in my mind stream. As I generate this gap, I increase my consciousness of the present moment and intensify whatever I am busy doing. Breathing deeply will create an opening if I am not doing anything.
The more I practice this technique, the more I am successfully living in the now and the more productive I am.
