I agree wholeheartedly. There are many ways to create a gap in the incessant stream of my thoughts.

I can also appreciate that meditation can be an excellent way of creating a gap in the incessant stream of my thoughts in this modern day and age.

When I read ET’s statement, ‘there are many different ways of creating a gap in the incessant stream of my thoughts.’ it came to me that there are indeed many ways. Meditation is one of these. What I also realized was this; What will always be important to me is that I have a successful technique to manage my thoughts.

Thoughts invoke emotions in my mind, and of course my creator designed it to be so. What becomes important to me is how I deal with the emotions my thoughts create. Let me give you a simple example here: Boy meets girl. The more they come to know each other, the attraction one for the other grows. The more time they spend together he notices that she is very popular with people, especially males. He is now spending more time on thinking about her popularity. So much so that his thoughts turn to fear that she will find someone else, and he will be hurt.

Now his thoughts turn to jealousy. She struggles to deal with his jealousy, and this leads to excessive quarrels. Of course, we all know what the solution to their problem is; he needs to break with the stream of thoughts about her and take control of his jealous behavior.

Among the many means that I employ to create a gap in the stream of thoughts from my mind is the art of focusing. Thought management could be considered as a science, but training myself throughout each day for me is like an art. Something like control with enjoyment. This process creates a love for my lifestyle.

I enjoy my daily exercise routine and as I commence each exercise, I conscientiously focus on what I’m doing and don’t allow my mind to wander. The big advantage with this technique is that as I focus on the exercise, I propel energy into my body at the same time. The use of focus works for me because I can apply energy to whatever I’m doing at any time.

So where would meditation come into the creating a gap in the incessant stream of my thoughts? I have not tried this, but I have read of people who successfully use meditation while they walk or run. Many years ago, I tried meditation in a group for no other reason than it appeared to be the in-thing to do. But it did not work for me, and I left the group feeling disillusioned. This could have been because I had no particular objective in mind or a reason for why I was meditating.

Over time I searched the net for a suitable method of meditating and the conclusion that I came to was that there are boundless methods of meditating and for that matter why would I want to meditate? One of the most common elements I discovered about people who meditate is that they show huge signs of benefit. This is what ABC News anchor and author Dan Harris has to say:

“…take a look at all the successful people who are doing it. Athletes such as the Chicago Cubs. Entertainers from 50 Cent to Lena Dunham and Katy Perry. Executives from the head of Twitter to folks at Google. Lawyers, journalists, politicians—you name it. Very successful people are using meditation as a tool.”[1]

“…But it strongly suggests that meditation can produce a tantalizingly long list of health benefits: that it can reduce blood pressure, boost your immune system, and re-wire key parts of the brain associated with attention, self-awareness, compassion, and stress.”[2]

As Et says, “There are Many ways to Create a Gap un The Incessant Stream of Thought. This is What Meditation is All About.

Lastly meditation is a powerful tool, but in my experience, not the only tool to create a gap in our incessant stream of thought.
