A challenge for you: Below is a piece I wrote in one of my early morning freewriting sessions. There are 195 words in this piece. I challenge you to add another 600 words but no more than 1000 and make an exciting story. Next week I will will post my version.
The Lighthouse
So in love, they walked hand in hand in silence, aware of the beauty surrounding them. Their feet imprinted into the sand until the waves washed over them, shissss, retreating into the sea with the certainty of returning for another try. Repeatedly, the waves rushed up the beach and then shissss, moved back until their prints were indistinguishable.
Unaware of the sea’s tireless labor, they walked on, new prints, evidence of their presence on the waterfront. What was on their minds remained there as they were silent, lost in their thoughts occasionally stealing a look at each other, the waves crashing onto the beach and swishing back to start the cycle again, drowning their thoughts.
What started as a distant spire became a great lighthouse, standing solitarily before them. They stood at the foot of the steps leading to a paint-peeled door with rusted hinges. Once, she stood proudly with her red and white striped coloring, fresh and new in the sunshine. On top of her tall tower appeared the light extinguished ten years back. She stood proudly, knowing that her light had shone brightly into the night for more than one hundred years, giving comfort and safety to those who sailed on the seas.

Take the leap to comment, I personally respond to each.
