I have a clear understanding of ET’s words. ‘Compassion is the awareness of a deep bond between yourself and all creatures.’
When I search my memory banks trying to recall times of my compassion toward others they do not come easily into my mind.
But there is no doubt that I have had times in my past where I have felt this bond between myself and others. And right now, I do share my partner’s plight as she struggles through her chemo treatments.
When the diagnosis was announced by the medical team, I recall thinking, How is she feeling about this horrific news? While she was asking questions I was crying because I felt so deeply for her in terms of the diagnosis
And thankfully I have never stopped feeling for her. As she continues the treatments. I think to myself the treatment for this disease seems to be worse than the disease itself!
Whereas we love each other and have an excellent relationship, now there is a steady flow of feelings towards her circumstance that is always there. I feel the strength of her courage each day as she deals with a life of different reactions of her body and mind to the effects of the drugs thrust into her. I feel deeply for her as I watch the suffering she lives through. I have never experienced this with any other human. And maybe it’s because she is precious to me that I feel this way. To add to this, I am with her 24/7 and I live the bond that compassion has created in me for her; this is my lifestyle.
ET quotes the Dalai Lama. Who said,
“My religion is kindness.”
Oh, that all religions could know Godly kindness. This is compassion.
While there have been times when I have felt for others, in the past I had fallen into a place of fear of others, especially those who were different from me in their culture, language, ethnicity and their religious beliefs. For these, I used to harbor unconscious hostility brought about by seeing difference in another. But now I no longer bear hostility for these folk and instead love them as God has loved me, without any limit or focus on difference and circumstance. I love all without differentiation.
ET quotes: “If her past were your past, her pain your pain, her level of consciousness your level of consciousness, you would think and act exactly as she does.”
With this realization comes forgiveness, compassion and peace.”
Until our next meeting
Love and blessings
