Living in The Now With My Five Senses

Senses and in the Now

My apologies for posting this article a few days after the promised

delivery, this was due to a medical procedure I had to undergo.

“Tolle teaches that the physical body can serve as an anchor to the present moment. By becoming more aware of our body and its sensations, we can ground ourselves in the now. Practices like mindful breathing, body scans, and yoga can enhance this connection and promote overall well-being.”[1]

Because of an issue I encountered, and possibly you may be having the same incidents, I am deviating from my usual posts relating to my life with quotes from Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now Journal, and going on to discuss my experience.

The issue I wish to discuss relates to my five senses and my endeavor to always live in the now moment. In trying to achieve this state in my life, there is always the inevitable interference from my body and mind.

Let me give you a few examples:

As I’m doing now, I focus on my writing, and a neighbor shoots past in his extremely noisy sports car. Immediately (after cussing under my breath,) I am distracted from what I’m doing. Or, a burning smell coming from the kitchen from a cooking pot I forgot on the stove. Many other examples range from all my five senses.

Working through Eckhart’s Journal, I have not found quotes on the issue of senses and living in the now. However, quotes about consciousness and being in the now could have involved the five senses.

The above quote suggests “…the physical body can serve as an anchor to the present moment.” And what does the physical body include? Among many others, the senses. And what is ET’s remedy for anchoring the physical body in the present moment?

ET provides several options, as the quote suggests. Of his suggestions, I practice mindful breathing occasionally and body scanning regularly. My method of body scanning is in the form of prayer. I start on my skeletal structure, beginning with my skull. While I’m there, I pop inside and ponder all its contents. I do the same down to my toes, constantly reflecting on every component inside my body. The nature of my prayer is one of thankfulness for the health of every element in and out of my body. Where there is pain, I thank my God, who lives inside me, for healing the pain or illness.

So, in ET’s words, “Practices like mindful breathing, body scans, and yoga can enhance this connection and promote overall well-being.”

I can testify to this as my mind is more acute regarding my thinking, and my physical health is in excellent condition. Above all, I love my lifestyle

Well, what are you waiting for? Could you give it a go?
