Power of Now Journal – Silent Intense Presence

“It is a silent but intense presence that dissolves the unconscious patterns of the mind. They may be active for a short while, but they won’t run your life anymore.”

Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now Journal.

Silent, Intense Presence

September 20, 2025

I am living proof of this truth.

I often describe this “presence” as the voice of God within me. At first, that might sound like a contradiction — how can there be both silence and a voice? If it’s a voice, shouldn’t it make a sound? And if it’s silent, how can it speak?

For me, that is a mystery.

When I say “mystery,” I mean something that isn’t fully clear now, but will one day be revealed. I don’t need to understand it completely to accept it. I live by faith in this truth, applying it daily and trusting that, in time, greater understanding will come.

Let me explain how this inaudible voice becomes real to me.

I speak with the God within me as if with another person. Throughout the day — from morning until night — we have conversations. This is my life, this is my love, and this is my purpose. I talk in my ordinary way, and God replies in spirit. In addition, to make these exchanges tangible, I often write them down: I record my questions, then write what I sense as God’s response.

This is a kind of free writing — not planned or forced, but flowing naturally, allowing the words to come through my hand without overthinking. (It’s not the same as “automatic writing,” which is something entirely different.)

So when Eckhart Tolle says, “It is a silent but intense presence,” that is how I understand it. What may seem contradictory — hearing an inner voice yet calling it silent — is not confusing to me. It’s simply how the presence of God communicates: quietly, but with unmistakable clarity and power.

I “hear” this voice not with my ears, but in my spirit. My hand moves, my pencil writes, and words appear. This is how God’s Spirit connects with my human spirit.

It reminds me of a modem connecting my laptop to the internet. I can’t see the modem’s signal or the internet itself, yet I know they’re real because I experience their effects. Likewise, I can’t see this inner communication, but I can feel it and recognize its truth.

It is, indeed, a mystery — one I don’t yet fully understand. But I believe by faith that this silent exchange is real, and the results in my life confirm it.

The philosopher St. Anselm once wrote:

“For I do not seek to understand in order that I may believe,
but I believe in order to understand.
For unless I believe, I shall not understand.”[1]

That resonates deeply with me.

Scripture also captures this experience beautifully:

“What God has prepared for those who love Him
is more than eyes have seen or ears have heard,
more than has ever entered the human mind.”[2]

Through this practice, my mind becomes still. The endless chatter of thoughts may still pass through, but they no longer rule me. The silent, intense presence — the voice of God within — now leads my life.
